THE IDEA.

Inspired by Spooky Potion Lab: a few drops, a little fizz and a potion with a story of its own. Leave a little space for the unexpected. The best part might be the bit you never planned.

YOU’LL NEED.

  • Two open plastic cups on a washable tray
  • One teaspoon of baking soda per cup
  • A small cup of vinegar and a pipette or spoon
  • Optional: a drop of food colouring

LET THEM…

  1. An adult sets out the cups, baking soda and small amounts of vinegar. Keep everything on the tray.
  2. Let them add vinegar a few drops at a time and notice the bubbles. What changes when they add a little more?
  3. Name each potion. Is it a dragon’s hiccup cure or a spell for invisible socks? Let their story lead the next experiment.

WHY KIDS LOVE IT.

An immediate, visible change gives curious hands something to investigate. Naming the potions turns a simple experiment into a world of pretend play.

Adult supervision throughout. Use only baking soda, vinegar and optional food colouring; never mix household cleaners. Keep cups open, keep mixtures away from eyes and never taste them. This home activity is inspiration, not instructions for the ingredients in a purchased kit.
